The UK legal claim will be against Facebook on behalf of those who live anywhere in the world (other than the USA) who are survivors of, or relatives of, those who died in this violence. A separate US claim has been filed on behalf of the Rohingya community who are resident in the US.

Unspeakable atrocities have been inflicted on the Rohingya people in Myanmar, at the hands of both the military and civilians. More than 10,000 people have been killed and over 150,000 have been subject to physical violence.

The Rohingya people continue to suffer serious psychological trauma and displacement as almost the entire population were forced to flee Myanmar. Almost one million survivors now reside in temporary refugee camps in Bangladesh.

The claim is launched by solicitors at McCue Jury and Partners LLP (led by Senior Partner Jason McCue) and Mishcon de Reya LLP (led by Managing Partner James Libson) and a team of barristers led by Richard Hermer QC and Danny Friedman QC of Matrix Chambers.
